Mrs. Dufault's Peek at the Week March 1, 2010




Today we celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday! We had fun reading favorite stories and writing activities. We even shared a wonderful, touching book by Dr.Seuss. Audrey Geisel ('Mrs. Seuss") published an unfinished story titled My Many Colored Days. The book was published in 1996 after Dr. Seuss' passing.

SUPERKIDS: This week we have started our Unit 9 and 10 Book. We will be working with words that have double vowels and adding ending such as -ed and -ing. We will also be focusing on creating a character using a web, comprehension, sequencing, and using adjectives in our writing. This week's spelling words are new Memory Words: would, could, some, one, new, were.

Math- This week we are writing money using dollars and cents, tallies, subrtacting 2 and drawing line segments.

Religion- We have been counting the days of Lent on our Lenten journey calendar in our classroom. We will be reading our book chapter about Lent as well. SBS is collecting spare change for Visitation House in Worcester. For those of you who are not familiar, Visitation House in shelter for pregnant women in need. We will be collecting change all week. Please send in your spare change to help us fill up our baby bottle by Friday.

Sicence- This month we will be learning all about "Weather". We are kicking off our unit with a study about clouds this week.

Social Studies- This week we will be learning about perspectives using maps: eye level view, birds-eye view, and map views.

***BIG NEWS!!!**** Our class has earned a class reward! It will be PAJAMA DAY on Friday, March 5th! Children need to wear pj pants and long sleeved tops. They may bring slippers to school to wear indoors. GREAT JOB, 1C!!!
