SUPERKIDS Units 1 and 2 Wrap Up

Dear Family,
Your child just completed Units 1 and 2 of the More Adventures of the Superkids
reading program. In our first Student Book, your child learned that the letter y is a vowel
when it comes at the end of words, such as cry, penny, and play. Your child also learned that
when you add an ending to a word that ends with y, you change the y to i before adding the
ending.
We are continuing to read stories about the Superkids in our More Adventures of the
Superkids Reader. Ask your child to tell about the rainy day projects in the story “In Case of
Rain” and the surprising way Oswald’s wish came true in “The Wish.”
As you look through the Student Book for Units 1–2, try some of these activities with
your child:
• Have your child read aloud the words on pages 1–4. See if your child can think of
other words that end with y or ay.
• Look at the directions on page 14. Play a game where you say a simple direction,
such as: “Clap your hands.” Have your child do what you say. Let your child give
directions for you to follow, too!
• Talk about the list your child wrote on page 16. Discuss things your child would like
to do on a rainy day and choose one idea to do for the next rainy day.
• Your child read about Oswald’s luckiest day. Ask your child about the luckiest
thing that has ever happened to him or her. Share the luckiest thing that has ever
happened to you.
Your child is learning to read, write, and understand new words every day. Home is a
great place for your child to share and practice new skills and get encouragement to keep up
the good work!
